Dehradun, Uttarakhand – In a significant move to promote education and environmental consciousness, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has unveiled two new state-wide initiatives. The programs are designed to provide unique opportunities for meritorious students and to galvanize community participation in river conservation.
Under the first initiative, the top-ranking students from Class 10 and Class 12 in each district will be given the honorary role of District Magistrate (DM) and Superintendent of Police (SP) for one day. This pioneering program aims to offer these high-achieving students a firsthand glimpse into the administrative machinery, thereby building their self-confidence and inspiring them to aspire to greater heights. A detailed action plan for the implementation of this scheme is currently in development and is expected to be rolled out across all districts soon.
The second initiative announced by the Chief Minister is the organization of ‘River Festivals’ dedicated to the state’s major rivers. These community-led events are intended to raise public awareness about the critical importance of river cleanliness, conservation, and rejuvenation.
Highlighting the cultural and ecological significance of the rivers, Dhami stated that they are not merely sources of water but are integral to Uttarakhand’s identity and way of life.Through these festivals, the government seeks to foster a sense of collective responsibility among citizens for water conservation and environmental hygiene.
According to the Chief Minister, these dual initiatives underscore the state government’s commitment to both celebrating academic excellence and nurturing environmental responsibility among its citizens.
