Nainital: In Nainital’s Krishna Pur Ward, the sensitive hill near Sipahi Dhara was covered with tarpaulin on Thursday. Residents of the area have been demanding a permanent solution for their safety. On Thursday, Amar Ujala published a report highlighting the concerns of Krishna Pur residents. However, a significant question remains: can covering the hill with tarpaulin truly ensure the safety of the residents?
Following the report, prompt action was taken, and under the orders of the District Magistrate (DM), the irrigation department covered the hill with tarpaulin to prevent water from seeping into the boulders and to ensure their stability. Former Municipal Vice President D.N. Bhatt mentioned that the DM has invited concerned parties for a meeting on Monday to discuss the matter further. Meanwhile, current councilors Kailash Rautela, Daya Pokhriya, Qurban Ali, and Mahesh Kumar have reiterated their demand for a permanent safety solution.
It is important to note that the large hill near Sipahi Dhara in Nainital’s Krishna Pur Ward is developing increasing cracks, posing a threat to the approximately four thousand residents living below in Krishna Pur. Residents fear a significant disaster could occur if immediate safety measures are not implemented. The sensitive Balya Nala is located nearby, with Sipahi Dhara above it and Krishna Pur below, increasing the risk of landslides in the area.
The main Veer Bhatti road to Krishna Pur has been damaged, forcing residents to use the CC road near Sipahi Dhara to reach their destination. A large boulder with widening cracks is situated right above the CC road near Sipahi Dhara. This hill poses a constant danger and could lead to a major accident at any time, threatening the four thousand residents living below in Krishna Pur, with over half of them at risk due to the vulnerable boulder.
