Dehradun: The southwest monsoon is expected to arrive in Uttarakhand within the next 48 hours, as reported by the regional meteorological centre of the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Typically, the monsoon onset in the state occurs between June 20 and 24. According to Bikram Singh, the director of the regional meteorological centre, conditions are becoming favorable for the monsoon’s further advance into certain parts of Uttarakhand over the next three to four days. Specifically, heavy showers are anticipated in Nainital, Pithoragarh, Champawat, and Bageshwar starting Thursday. Additionally, the rest of the state will also experience rain and thunderstorms in the coming days. Widespread pre-monsoon showers lashed several parts of Uttarakhand in the last 24 hours. Chakrata received 70mm of rain, followed by Dharchula with 69.6mm, Nainital with 38.7mm, Rudraprayag with 32mm, Tuini with 30mm, Karnapr with 30mm, Pauri with 22mm, and Ukhimath with 16.6mm.
