Orders Issued to Kill the Leopard in Tehri, Which Took the Life of a Child; Shooter Deployed in Purwal Village

Tehri :In Tehri, a tragic incident occurred in the Purwal village of Ghansali’s Bhilangana forest range, where a leopard attacked and killed a 3-year-old child. Following the incident, Tehri DFO (Divisional Forest Officer) Puneet Tomar and Range Officer Ashish Nautiyal visited the site. The officials informed that permission has been granted by wildlife authorities to shoot the leopard. Additionally, surveillance measures have been put in place by installing a cage and camera traps in the village. A compensation of INR 2 lakh out of the INR 6 lakh promised to the grieving family has been issued.

Leopard snatched the child from the courtyard: Last Sunday, 3-year-old Rajkumar, who was visiting his maternal grandmother’s house in Purwal village, was playing with his uncle’s children when a leopard, waiting in ambush, snatched him from the courtyard and killed him. The child’s mutilated body was found a short distance from the incident site. After the incident, the administration took precautionary measures and declared a holiday on Monday in the village’s primary and upper primary schools. Meanwhile, the villagers have demanded that the leopard be neutralized and that the number of hunters in the area be increased to prevent further attacks.

A 9-year-old child was also preyed upon by a leopard: Two months earlier, on July 22, a 9-year-old child was killed by a leopard in Bhond village, located about 5000 meters from Purwal village. Despite deploying a team of hunters, the leopard responsible for that attack is still at large.

Hunters will remain stationed to kill the leopards: Regarding the incident that occurred two months ago, Tehri DFO Puneet Tomar mentioned that continuous rainfall over the past two months has hindered efforts to capture the leopard. Local MLA Shakti Lal Shah expressed that the government is deeply affected by the incidents in Bhond and Purwala villages. Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal has issued orders to eliminate the leopards. Since the two villages are close to each other, hunting teams will be stationed in both areas to reduce the fear among the people.
