Nanda Gaura Scheme: Government to Provide Annual Financial Assistance for Higher Education, Changes to be Implemented.

Dehradun: Under the Nanda Gaura Scheme, the government will provide annual financial assistance for the higher education of daughters. The scheme, named after the deities Nanda and Gaura, currently offers ₹11,000 at the birth of a daughter and ₹51,000 upon completing 12th grade. However, the government plans to make changes to this scheme.

Increased Participation in Higher Education

The government’s intention is to integrate this scheme with the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana, providing eligible daughters with an annual financial amount, potentially ₹10,000 or more. This assistance aims to encourage higher education among daughters and increase their participation in higher studies.

This annual financial support will help cover the costs of higher education. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed departmental officials to prepare a detailed framework for these changes within a month. Officials are currently working on a proposal to determine whether the annual amount should be fixed or vary by course.

Creation of Working Women Hostels

The government also plans to establish working women hostels in every district, which will be operated under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. The Chief Minister has instructed the Chief Secretary to prepare a framework for land availability and the operation of these hostels under the PPP model.

Named after the deities Nanda and Gaura, the scheme aims to ensure better opportunities for girls, particularly those from underprivileged families.
