Preparations to Combat Dengue in Dehradun: Health Department Deploys 591 ASHA Workers

Dehradun: To prevent the spread of dengue in the capital city, the health department is continuously conducting larva surveys and awareness activities. The department is conducting door-to-door larva surveys and destroying dengue larvae on the spot.

During the monsoon season, the health department faces the challenge of controlling dengue. Last year, many areas in Dehradun saw a significant rise in dengue cases starting in July, with the situation becoming serious in August and September. This year, the health department has deployed around 591 ASHA workers in the field from July 1 to prevent the spread of dengue. ASHA workers and municipal teams are jointly conducting door-to-door larva surveys. Since July 1, over 250,000 homes have been surveyed, and 852,690 containers have been searched, with dengue larvae found in 3,140 containers.

Dr. Sanjay Jain, the Chief Medical Officer of Dehradun, mentioned that last year, areas like Ajabpur, Dharampur, and Race Course were severely affected by dengue. The health department’s team is now raising awareness in these areas, and ASHA workers are destroying any found larvae. He noted that it is a relief that the previous dengue hotspots are not showing larvae this year. He emphasized the importance of destroying mosquito breeding sources and maintaining cleanliness as a permanent habit.

Avoid Aedes Mosquitoes: The Aedes mosquito is responsible for spreading dengue and typically bites during the day. The health department believes that awareness is key to preventing the breeding of these mosquitoes. People are advised to regularly clean containers, tires, pots, or any other sources where clean water collects.
